Child booster seat laws by state

If you can answer “yes” to any of the following questions it is time for your child to move on to a booster seat:
Typically between 40 to 80 or 100 pounds, your child will be required to sit in a booster seat. Booster seats are not installed the same way car seats are. They sit on the vehicle seat and are used to boost the child so they are properly positioned with the adult safety belt across their lap and shoulder.
For easier installation, LATCH system car seats allow you to safely install your booster seat without using the safety belts. Almost all cars and car seats made since September 2002 must have LATCH. With LATCH system car seats you must still use the lap and shoulder belt to secure your child, but the LATCH system’s locking system provides additional booster seat stability in a collision.
