As ACE (American Coaster Enthusiast) members, we are huge thrill seekers and plan our vacations around amusement parks around the world. Living in VA, we have the Virginia passes to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg and our two adventure seeking boys love it. It amazes us how much there is for a 2 ½ and 4 year old to do there. As parents we love Busch Gardens because it is just so clean and family friendly and not an outrageous day of fun. The only ride we really like there for us is the Griffon though, but it’s a great day if my husband and I can get a couple of turns through out the day on the Griffon and the rest of the day is spent letting the kids enjoy themselves and tire themselves out.
With summer on it’s way we have been researching many different water parks. Busch Gardens has a nice small area for the children to cool off in their Dragon Land which surprisingly does not get over crowded. But for a day of fun in the water I highly recommend Dollywood. We found Busch Gardens Water Country really pails in comparison to Dollywood’s Splash Country. The layout for Splash Country was so much more appealing and had such great toddler areas. Also, when you add up all the food and lockers you pay for, Splash Country is much cheaper than Water Country.
What to take with you to make your trip comfortable?
• We highly recommend a stroller to begin with. It doesn’t matter if your kids are 2 months or 7 years old, it’s a lot of walking at the amusement parks and I know I get awfully tired. I wish there was a stroller for me. Now many of these places will allow you to rent strollers, but we have seen where they have been sold out and that would be so disappointing.
• If you have a young child, carriers are a great way to get around the parks and I highly suggest one that is breathable and ergonomic, like the Lascal M1 or PortaMEe carrier, so you and your child are comfortable.
• Even though Busch Gardens really seems to do a great job at keeping their facilities clean, I trust much less the visitors, so we never leave home without our Potty Protectors. This great potty covers are large enough so that it covers the part of the potty that toddlers touch as well. They come in a pack of 10 and are compact enough to put several of them in your bag or stuff in your stroller.
• Travelling with an infant? Don’t forget a Bottle Cooler. The Multi-purpose MaxiCOOL is fully insulated and includes a reusable ice pack. Includes a snap handle that attaches to your stroller for easy use or compact enough to put in your bag.
• Keep kids hydrated with this very cool small day pack from Outside Baby that has a waterproof and durable rip-stop Nylon and Cordura in the bag.
Smartertravel.com has a great recent article on theme parks for this summer as well.
Enjoy and play safe this summer!
